Individuals who suffer from presbyopia (farsightedness that occurs as a result of a loss of elasticity in the eye lens) and near vision that is blurry are excellent candidates for KAMRA inlay surgery. This procedure inserts an inlay under the cornea of one eye only. It has a pinhole that allows focused light to enter and together with the opposite eye, creating better vision so contacts and eyeglasses are no longer needed. There are a few things you'll need to do in order to prepare for this surgery. 

Get a Complete Eye Exam

The first step is to make an appointment with your eye doctor for a complete eye exam. The physician will need to check that your eyes are healthy and clear you for surgery. During that visit, you can discuss the KAMRA inlay surgery process, what you should expect, and what the possible complications are. The eye doctor will then work with you to set a surgery date. 

Clear Your Schedule

KAMRA reports that most patients are able to return to work and normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. Once you know the surgery date, it is a good idea to clear your schedule for the two days following the procedure. If you're feeling up to it, you can always join in on the fun, however, it is much harder to cancel something important at the last minute. 

Wash Your Face the Morning of the Procedure

The day of your surgery there are a few things you'll need to do. First, remove any contacts that you may have been using and set them aside in a contact lens case. Second, wash your face with soap and water to remove any makeup. Third, refrain from applying any new makeup, moisturizing lotions, or jewelry until after the surgery is complete. 

Watch What You Eat

Patients are permitted to eat when they are scheduled for a variety of eye surgeries, including the KAMRA inlay surgery, but it is best if you say away from caffeinated beverages if you tend to get anxious. A light meal may also be a wiser choice as anxiety can cause an upset stomach. Should you feel that you may need something to help you relax for the surgery, talk with your doctor about possible anxiety medications. 

Ask a Friend for Help

Immediately following the surgery, your eye will not be ready to drive a vehicle. You will need to elicit the help of a friend who can drive you to and from the KAMRA inlay surgery. Of course, it is also beneficial to have the emotional support of a friend before undergoing any kind of procedure that is out of the ordinary.
